Resource Teachers: Learning and Behaviour (RTLB)
Working collaboratively to improve student learning and behaviour (Years 1-10)

RTLB provide
Support for teachers/kaiako to raise achievement of learners/ākonga

 

RTLB work

  • Involves a planned, solution-focused process

  • Builds on student strengths and interests

  • Is sensitive to cultural needs

  • Promotes inclusion

 

RTLB consult with

  • Teachers/kaiako and key school staff.

  • Parents/caregivers/whānau.

  • Ministry of Education Learning Support staff.

  • Other support agencies if required.

 

RTLB may

  • Help schools develop programmes that best suit the learner.

  • Access resources for better learning.

  • Help teachers understand and modify challenging behaviours.

  • Upskill teachers to better meet the learning needs of students.

  • Help to access specialist support.

 

Access to RTLB requests for  support are made through schools. Each school meets regularly with their Liaison RTLB to discuss how needs can best be met and identify which ones require specific RTLB involvement. Caregiver informed consent is required before a case can begin.

 

Te Whiri Kōkō

 

Te Whiri Kōkō is the name of the RTLB cluster, with 42 specialist teachers, supporting 112 schools across Tāmaki Nui A Rua (Tararua), Manawatu (excluding Feilding), Horowhenua, Ōtaki and Kāpiti regions.
